Retractable Acoustic Curtains are used in industrial applications for the purpose of reducing noise from loud equipment in a manufacturing facility. Industrial Acoustic Curtains are a sound blocking curtain panel, sound absorbing curtain wall or sound reducing curtain enclosure that is retractable and can be used in many manufacturing applications.
Noise or sound control is accomplished by blocking or absorbing sound energy. In order to optimize noise control requirements, most often both sound absorbing and sound blocking materials are combined to form a sound attenuating panel, sound attenuation curtain wall, or sound attenuating curtain enclosure that limits the amount of sound energy that can escape.
AmCraft manufactures industrial acoustic curtains using insulated vinyl curtains for low level noise reduction. For more of a sound barrier, mass loaded vinyl is added to block more sound energy in order to reach OSHA required decibel levels. The level of insulation and sound barrier materials needed is determined by the application and the amount of noise reduction necessary to meet specific guidelines.
If you have a situation in which a noise producing operation is only performed intermittently, you may want to consider a retractable curtain sound barrier to provide flexibility in its use. Another situation that would warrant a retractable acoustic curtain as a sound control barrier is equipment that may need frequent set up, servicing, or an extreme amount of accessibility from numerous directions.
A retractable acoustic curtain is attainable for most insulated noise reducing curtains. To accomplish retractability, the sound absorbing materials are cut into sections and encased in a thinner, more flexible sound blocking material that is flexible enough to fold and retract.
Velcro separations can be placed between any or all panels so as to build in accessibility and flexibility around the unwanted noise source.
In extreme noise environments, if you have sufficient space for a thicker sound absorbing curtain or sound absorbing panel, you can use 3” thick sections which will increase the sound blocking capacity, but this will impact the retractability. With 3” thick panels your acoustic curtain panel assembly will only retract partially.
