An Overview of Purchasing Industrial Curtain Hardware

An Overview of Purchasing Industrial Curtain Hardware

Finding yourself in a situation where you need to order a product that you are not familiar with can be a very intimidating position to be in. Industrial curtains and industrial curtain track systems are products that typically fall into this category; you find yourself needing them but are not sure how to go about ordering. The first thing to consider when choosing your industrial curtain track system is to determine where you will support the industrial curtain track hardware. Below you will find some guidelines and helpful information to assist you in beginning this process.

Choosing the right system

The first thing to consider when choosing your industrial curtain track system is where you will support the industrial curtain track hardware from. The track must be supported to your structure every 5’-6’. Support can come from your existing ceiling, floor, existing walls and vertical beams, or a combination of these structural members.

Once you figure out what will be supporting your industrial curtain track system, take a few photos of that structure so that you can refer back to them when choosing which hardware will best fit your structure. If you are planning to support your industrial curtain track from the ceiling, please also note what height this structure is at and if it is sloped.

There is a Curtain Wall System to Fit Your Needs

There is a variety of industrial curtain hardware available, so that mounting your industrial curtain track system is easy to do. Whether you have a sloped ceiling with beams and trusses, a drywall ceiling, a drop ceiling, or want to mount to your floor or existing walls, there is an industrial curtain hardware system to fit your needs. Additionally, industrial curtain track comes in different lengths, from 2’ to 10’, allowing us to provide as much or as little footage of straight track as is necessary.

The most commonly used industrial curtain track hardware is the threaded rod mounting option. When mounting from your ceiling, threaded rod mounting allows for four things:

Contact Us Form Mini

1. If your ceiling is sloped or pitched, threaded rod will allow you to level the industrial curtain track.

It is important that your track system is level; if it is not, then the industrial curtains will slide down the track to the lowest point. Most industrial ceilings do have a pitch to them, which is why the threaded rod mounting system is so popular. Once you measure the height at the lowest point of your ceiling, and the highest point of your ceiling, you can figure out how many rods you need, what length they should be, and what other industrial curtain track hardware you will need to make it all fit together.

Threaded Rod

2. If your ceiling is at a higher height than you would like your industrial curtain and industrial curtain track system set at, threaded rod will allow you to drop the industrial curtain track down a few feet.

It is very common for the ceiling in a building to be higher up than you need your curtain to run. For example, your ceiling may be 18’ high, but you would like to set your industrial curtain track system height at 12’. Companies often do this because they are trying to contain an operation, or visually block off an operation, but it’s not necessary to have the industrial curtain set above 12′ where no one would be able to see or interfere with it. Threaded rods will allow you to drop that industrial curtain wall and industrial curtain track system down to your desired height, while still supporting it from above.

3. If you have a drop ceiling, it will allow your track to sit below the drop ceiling, while the support for it comes from above.

A drop ceiling, also known as a t-bar ceiling or an acoustic ceiling, is a structure that is suspended down from the ceiling structure above. The drop ceiling can add aesthetic and acoustic value to a space, and as such, is a popular option for many semi-industrial office spaces. However the t-bar and tile that make up a drop ceiling are not strong enough to attach to an industrial curtain track system directly. Threaded rod will allow you to support your industrial curtain track from above the drop ceiling, but still set the industrial curtain track and industrial curtain below it.

4. If you have obstructions in your ceiling (water pipes, HVAC ducts, conduit, etc.) that you need to bypass, threaded rod will allow you to do that.

If you would like your industrial curtains to be retractable, then the industrial curtain track system must be uninterrupted. If you have a ceiling with obstructions in it, including but not limited to lights, sprinkler pipes and heads, HVAC ducts, and conduit, the industrial curtain track must be dropped down, via threaded rods, to sit below your lowest obstruction. This will allow the industrial curtain to move within the track seamlessly.

Non-Standard is No Problem

While threaded rod is the most common mounting option for the industrial curtain hardware, we also offer ceiling mounting, wall mounting, beam flange mounting, chain mounting, and floor mounting. Additionally, AmCraft has a variety of industrial curtain hardware that we have custom designed to make installation easier.

Cool Hacks Using Industrial Spray Booth Curtains

Cool Hacks Using Industrial Spray Booth Curtains

Working in an auto body shop requires having a versatile workspace to accommodate the various day-to-day functions of caring for a single vehicle or an entire fleet. The challenge is to somehow create isolated work areas within the shop that enables specific tasks to be performed without compromising the work being completed in other areas.

Just the simple concept of moving a given vehicle in a crowded auto body shop make a great case for an industrial curtain wall or paint and spray booth Curtains. Permanent walls fail to provide the flexibility needed, which makes industrial curtain walls an ideal solution.

Industrial spray booth curtains elude to their ability to be used as an enclosure to contain paint over-spray. However this curtain wall is truly a chameleon as it can take on the multi-functional needs of most auto body shop operations. Here are cool hacks that auto body shop owners can use right now with an industrial spray booth curtain.

Auto Body Shop Curtain

Retractable Paint Booth Curtain

Work space is a huge asset in any facility. One main challenge you may be facing when dividing space within an auto body shop, may be that you need certain spaces to support multiple functions. If you put a wall into your shop, but at a later time wish you could take it down in order to open up that area for another function, you may end up undoing all the work you just did to divide the area up. Auto body shop curtains can be retractable, so that they can be pulled out to divide space, or tucked away to open up the area as needed. This provides a very flexible and versatile way to divide your auto body shop, without committing to separating the space on a permanent basis.

Dust-Free Work Zone

Many operations in an auto body facility require an environment that is dust-free. Paint work is a prime example of this. It is important to keep the areas where painting is going on as dustless as possible, in order to ensure that the finish on the automobile is smooth and even. Industrial spray booth curtains are a cost effective and painless option for this type of space division. In addition to the industrial spray booth curtain itself, there are options that can be added on to make the curtain more air tight, such as a floor sweep, a valance, a filler panel, and Velcro sealed side edges. These options, along with the spray booth curtain itself, will keep a vast majority of dust out of your work area.

Wash Bay Stalls

A popular function in any auto shop is washing down vehicles or equipment. Anyone who has done this knows that the water and over-spray has a tendency to spread throughout the entire shop. Industrial spray booth curtains are an efficient, cost effective way to contain the wash bay area and keep the mist from this application from spreading throughout adjacent areas of your facility. Additionally, as highlighted in the retractable paint booth curtain section, the spray booth curtains can be moved into place when wash down occurs, and retracted back when they are not needed.

Metal & Fabrication Area

The use of aluminum to make more parts on newer vehicles, while certain parts and older vehicles are still fabricated with steel, has spurred the need for better division within metal work areas. If particulate from aluminum fabrication mixes with particulate from steel fabrication, the results can be hazardous, and in certain circumstances, combustible. Auto body shop curtains are a great fit for dividing fabrication areas up.

Industrial spray booth curtains go beyond paint over-spray and can be adapted to accommodate the multi-faceted functions required of auto body shops. With the right configuration and accessories, the spray both curtains can transform a large work space into separate designated areas designed to meet the performance requirements of that particular work zone – whether it’s a dust free environment, wash bay stall or metal and fabrication area.

The Top 5 Benefits of Insulated Curtains

The Top 5 Benefits of Insulated Curtains

Whether in the dead of winter, or the middle of summer, it is always a great idea to prepare your facility for the rise and fall of extreme temperatures. Insulated curtains can be highly beneficial to industries that wish to control the temperature variances in their facility. You will find in many situations, especially in temperature sensitive areas, that it is essential to have industrial grade temperature control dividers to separate higher degree differentials.
Many different industries benefit from the use of insulated curtains. Businesses with loading docks, food storage facilities, and those wishing to create temperature variation within their personal workspaces in their garage greatly benefit from using insulated curtains.

Here are the top five benefits of utilizing insulated curtains in your day-to-day business operations.

Cleaning and Durability

The first benefit of an insulated curtain is its ease of cleaning and its durability. These properties make it a great fit in industrial environments. The outer layers of our insulated curtains are made of vinyl which is a naturally soft, waterproof fabric that is easy to wash down. The material will not absorb liquids and stains, so cleaning should not be needed often. To clean the curtain, simply use a mild detergent and water. With the clean look and insulation property this curtain provides, your sealed off work area will have a very professional and effective barrier between your business operations.

Insulation Levels

Another benefit of the insulated curtain is the level of insulation that the curtain provides. Insulated industrial curtain walls assist with retaining the climate requirements necessary to store and produce temperature- sensitive products. A single layer curtain will have an R value of 1; that is the equivalent of placing a lid on a Styrofoam Coffee Cup. By adding insulation to the curtain you will have a higher R value, the ability to better insulate, and be able to separate temperature zones within your facility.

The effectiveness of an insulated curtain wall is dependent upon on all of the edges being sealed and effectively containing heated or cooled air. An HVAC technician can confirm that your heating or cooling system has the capacity to deliver a sufficient volume of air heated or cooled to a reasonably higher or lower temperature than is required inside of your enclosure. These factors along with an insulated curtain with the appropriate R value can greatly increase your ability to control and maintain temperature in a given area. In addition to separating temperature zones inside a larger space, these curtains also work as a temperature barrier from outside elements, so as long as they are not hanging outside the vinyl outer layer provides a waterproof surface. The insulation used inside the insulated curtains is made from a non-fiberglass, polyfiber insulation. This material is loosely bound, flexible, soft, and allows air space within it. Air is a great insulator, so the fact that the insulation allows for this adds to the insulation value of the overall curtain.

Flexibility

A third benefit of insulated curtains is flexibility. Insulated curtains can be used according to the spatial or seasonal needs in your facility. Whether you need to create an enclosure for total temperature control, create a barrier wall to isolate an area, or create access into climate sensitive manufacturing and distribution facilities, a retractable insulated curtain is a great solution. They can be easily removed at any time depending on the needs of your business. Whether you need to open up your enclosure when you need more space, or only need an insulated curtain during warmer or cooler months, the option is yours.

Sound Absorption

A fourth benefit of an insulated curtain is the sound absorption that it will provide in the facility. This is ideal for machinery that is loud and requires to be in a certain temperature, but is not required to be in an open area of the facility.

Quality

At Amcraft Manufacturing we fabricate high quality insulated curtains. Each curtain is tailored to the specific needs of our customers. For example, when we sew Velcro onto a curtain, it is reinforced with 4 lines of sewing. AmCraft Manufacturing can customize your curtain because we manufacture them where we sell them giving us ultimate control over all aspects of the manufacturing process. This allows us to oversee the quality of each curtain as it is made.

It is very important to remember to order before the first week of freezing temperatures, as it can take a couple of weeks to produce. Even with seasonal weather, it can work in your facility 10 months out of the year as the weather shifts. If temperatures on Side A and Side B of your curtain wall area have a temperature differential of greater than 8 degrees, it is time to consider using an insulated curtain! From the dimensions to the mounting method, and everything in between, curtains can be customized to fit your exact needs. A retractable insulated industrial curtain will satisfy these requirements and provide you with a solution that addresses space division and insulation issues without breaking the bank or slowing operations for months due to construction time.
